Safeguarding
Sunbeams preschool wants to work with children, parents and the community to ensure the safety of children and to give them the very best start in life.
Aims
Our aims are to:

Create an environment in our preschool which encourages children to develop a positive self image, regardless of race, language, religion, culture or home background;

Help children to establish and sustain satisfying relationships within their families

Encourage children to develop a sense of independence;

Enable children to have the self confidence and the vocabulary to resist inappropriate approaches; and work with parents to build their understanding of and commitment to the welfare of all our children.
Staffing and volunteering

Our named, Designated Safeguarding Lead (a member of staff or a committee member) who coordinates child protection issues is Cheryl Anstey. Our Deputy designated safeguarding lead is Tracy Owen, Both Tracy and Cheryl have completed relevant training in safeguarding and have many years experience.

Each year there is a named committee member responsible for child protection. They receive training to support the preschool in meeting its safeguarding requirements. Our named Committee member is Roseanne Thomas.

Staff receive regular in-house training in child protection procedures

We provide adequate and appropriate staffing resources to meet the needs of children.

Applicants for posts within the preschool are clearly informed that the positions are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

We abide by Ofsted requirements in respect of references and DBS checks for staff and volunteers, to ensure that no disqualified person or unfit person works at the preschool or has access to the children.

Volunteers do not work unsupervised

We keep a single central register which is updated as and when required

Personal mobile phones and cameras must be kept in locked cupboards during sessions. The only cameras permitted for use belong to the preschool, these are kept on the premises and the memory is wiped at the end of each session
Warwickshire has introduced a new integrated front door which replaces the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, (MASH) as the first point of contact for safeguarding concerns for children and young people. The Children and Families Front Door, will bring together Early Help and Children's Social Care to ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time. The Local Authority Designated Officer(LADO) works within Children's Services and gives advice and guidance to employers, organisations and other individuals who have concerns about the behaviour of an adult who works with children and young people. The telephone number is 01926 743433

All members of staff know the procedures for recording and reporting. A copy of these procedures are in the staff cupboard and on display in the kitchen, and around the classroom.
Staff are told that if their concerns are not acted upon to their satisfaction, it is their individual duty to report the matter to the local safeguarding children’s board without delay.
